This includes five years of playing midget football for Northside. As a high school freshman, he played on the J.V. team. In his sophomore year he starred for the varsity as a de fensive safety, and this season he played Number One quarter- back, defensive safety, and was a punt return specialist. Holeman says that he had rather play offense. He was nam ed to the All-Conference defen sive unit, but he said he had rather have been named to the offensive unit as the Number One quarterback. Larry com mented, “Roxboro should have had more players on the All- Conference list.” He singled out Joe Lipscomb’s fine perform ances in the interior line. When asked if home games had any advantages, he replied in the affirmative, “We’re used to the situation, the lights, and the field surroundings. The crowd helps get the team up and the cheerleaders do a ter rific job.” Larry praised the fans at the Oxford game in referring to the line they formed before the game which extended across tho field to the bench. Larry called it, “The greatest thing the fans did all year.” In looking back over the sea son Holeman called the Cary and Northern games the “tough est.” Referring to the Northern game Holeman explained, “Northern was supposed to be the best, we were underdogs, but we beat them.” He felt the team learned a lot from the Jordan game. In explaining the Jordan loss, he stated that “we got in a bad position against a last place team. We shouldn’t have gotten behind!” “Beating West Carteret was my biggest thrill because I play ed a bigger part.” As he looked back over the Sanford defeat he replied, “I couldn’t have helped the Rockets in the second half, but I would have liked to have played. I thought Rob (Fitz gerald) did a fantastic job.” He also felt it would have been a better game if the field had been dry. When asked about the aerial game to Keith Hall, who caught a record thirty passes, Holeman said he looked to Hall in the “crucial” plays, because he knew what Hall would do. Lenny Wrenn, Northern tackle, also drew praise from Holeman. He put it squarely by saying, “you can’t run over him, you must run around him.” Holeman wishes to continue to play football after his high school days and is interested in the University of Tennessee, his reasons being, “they have a fine team, a civil engineering course which I’m interested in, and I know lots of people down there.” You still have time to do that last minute shopping. Forrest was headed home when he decided he needed some gas. He pulled into a service station and got out of the car. The service station attendant immediately rushed up and con gratulated him on making the All-East team. Blayney, being quite stunned, replied, “Who me? What are you talking about?” The team is picked by a 35 member staff which includes sportswriters, coaches of the four 3-A districts, and college recruiters, all sponsored by the Raleigh News and Observer. The selection to the All-East team will be capped by a banquet January 4 in which Forrest, his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Blayney, and Coach Dixon are invited. The reason he didn’t think he made all-conference was, “I got switched so many times from guard to fullback when Buch- annan got hurt, and then back to guard later. Right now he favors Wake Forest, but Blayney declares, “I don’t care where I play, as long as I play.” Intramurals OK'd Athletic Director Jim Edens announced sports will begin in the spring.
